Shipping settings

Shipping Settings allow you to configure how shipping is handled within your Returnless return forms. These settings help ensure that customers are offered the correct shipping methods and that your team has all required shipment information.

Accessing Shipping Settings

To open the Shipping Settings panel:

  1. Log in to your Return panel.
  2. Go to Return forms.
  3. Open the return form you want to edit.
  4. Select the Shipping Settings tab.

Shipment Creation Settings

These settings determine how shipment weight and dimensions are calculated when customers create a return.

Dynamic Weight

When enabled, the total weight of all returned items is automatically calculated and used to determine available shipping methods.

When disabled, the default weight is used instead.

Dynamic Dimensions

When enabled, product dimensions are automatically applied to filter shipping methods.

When disabled, the default dimensions are used.

International Shipping Settings

When receiving returns from outside the EU, customs documents are required. Returnless can generate these documents, but certain information must be provided.

Parameter Description
VAT number / EORI number Your company’s VAT or EORI number.
Default HS code Used when no product-specific HS code is available. (Search HS codes online.)
Default country of origin Used when no product-specific country of origin is available.

More details about international shipping requirements can be found in our dedicated International shipments article.

Shipping Labels

You can select which reference is printed on your shipping labels:

  • Sales Order ID: Refers to the unique identifier in your e-commerce platform.
  • Sales Order Number: Displays the sales order number for easy reference.
  • Return Number: Shows the unique return number assigned to the return.
  • Outbound Shipping Number: Refers to the outbound shipment number.
  • Return Order Metadata Value: Allows you to add custom metadata values to the return order. Note: Metadata is available after adding the first key. To add metadata, refer to the Update a Return Metadata API Call or manage it in the return detail page.

Dynamic Return Costs Settings

Note: We recommend using Return Rules instead, which allow full flexibility using the Add shipping fee and Add item shipment fee actions.

Dynamic Return Costs define the return fee per item when applicable. These costs are not applied when:

  • The return is marked as Free return, or
  • The customer selects a store location to return the item(s).

Configurable options
